JDO Steppes up campaign to shut hate-site
Huge police presence in Crown Heights following threats
The JDO is stepping up its campaign to shut down the website run by Khuttub which, as previously reported on Chabad.info, publicly published threats against 770, and now Yeshiva University and other synagogues across the US. For the past several days JDO members were in Crown Heights doing surveillance following reports that Khutteb was seen in the neighborhood. Khuttub called for "Mumbai style attacks" on his website which is a forum for right wing Muslim Americans. "We are closely monitoring his movements, along with the NYPD and federal agents" a JDO spokesman told Chabad.info in a phone conversation.

Hakhel Program for all Temimim
On Tuesday, Erev Yud Shvat, all Talmidei Hatmimim are being called to assemble at 8:00pm in 770 - Beis Chayeinu to hear words of Chizzuk and Hisorrerus from the Rebbe's Mazkir, Rabbi Yehuda Leib שי' Groner.

Additionally a learning program will be held, for all Temimim of, in honor of Yud Shvat. The event, which will also mark 'Shnas Hakhel' is being organized by the Hanholos of the Yeshivas of Crown Heights. The program will take place, on Wednesday, Yud Shvat in 770 at 6:00pm until Maariv.

Rubashkin free on bail!
Sholom Rubashkin, the former top executive at the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville, will be released from custody on $500,000 bond while he awaits trial on multiple federal counts of bank fraud and of helping illegal immigrants obtain false documents, a judge ruled this morning. Rubashkin has been in federal custody since Nov. 14. Prosecutors had contended he might flee if let out of jail.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg can now claim to be No. 1 in a category he cares deeply about: giving his money away. Mr. Bloomberg, the self-made billionaire founder of the Bloomberg financial information firm, donated $235 million in 2008, making him the leading individual living donor in the United States, according to a list released online on Monday by The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

CNN's "World's Untold Stories" produced a documentary about the massacre on the shluchim in Mumbai. Moishe Holtzberg's hero nanny Sandra Samuel describes her terrifying ordeal, and Rabbi Dov Goldberg walks through the now destroyed Chabad Center vividly recounting what occured that fateful day from the first shot by the terrorists. $350,000 settlement in cap, beard case
Police Detective Steve Riback, at Chabad of Southern Nevada
The Metro Fiscal Affairs Committee on Monday approved a $350,000 settlement payment to Detective Steve Riback, an Orthodox Jew who sued the department in 2007 after he was prohibited from wearing a beard and head covering, as mandated by his religion. Now that the settlement has been approved, Metro officials are willing to discuss some of the more nuanced terms of the settlement. Here are some details the Sun got from Metro attorney Liesl Freedman: For starters, Riback will be allowed to wear a neatly trimmed beard no more than a quarter-inch long. He will also be allowed to wear a baseball cap — but not a trucker hat — most likely with the LVMPD logo or no logo at all.

SDSU Students rejoice with new torah
An unprecedented event took place recently at Chabad of S Diego; a Sefer Torah was dedicated by students at SDSU. The students dedicated the new Torah to the memory of the Holtzberg's. The dedication of a new Torah is such a rare event, that many Jews observe only one or two of these ceremonies in a lifetime. Hundreds of students, graduate students, young professional and residents of S Diego joined this momentous event. The dedication began with the final letters entered in the scroll at a ceremony held at Chabad of University City led by Rabbi Shalom Boudjnah, which was followed by a parade with the Torah through the campus streets, and many hours of joyous dancing.

Accident causes stir
5:30pm, Sunday Evening: A car driven by the wife of a Crown Heights Hatzalah member collided with a vehicle driven by a non-Jew at the intersection of Kingston Ave and St Johns Place. A heated argument began between the parties involved in the accident, Shmira was immediately called along with Hatzalah. Shmira units were immediately able to calm the parties and help them exchange insurance information. An FDNY ambulance transported one patient to the hospital.

To Ofakim with love

Immediately following the plea for help from the Shliach of Ofakim, a town in the South of Israel, to Yisroel Schulman, the Monsey Chabad community raised close to $7,000 towards helping its beleaguered residents who were under a continuous barrage of missile attacks from the Gaza Strip.

Rubashkin hearing update
The bail hearing for Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin took place this morning from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Several witnesses were heard. The family is hopeful that with Hashem's help Sholom Mordechai will see a speedy Geulah. Please be advised, the hearing will continue tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. which is 9:00 a.m. EST in the Cedar Rapids court room. Sefer Torah Stolen
NYPD of the 71st Pct are calling for a level one mobilization in front of 1723 Union Street and Utica Avenue due to religious items that were stolen. Police and Shmira are searching for a perpetrator who stole a $40,000 Sefer Torah out of a four door black sedan with NY registration 'DRV9683' from in front of the above location. The perp fled on foot.

Study Practical Family Halachos
A Chazara Shiur on family Halachos for Men is slated to begin next week. The Shiurim will take place on Tuesdays from Parshas Bo to Parshas Mishpatim; 2,9,16, and 23 of Shvat, the 27th of January, 3,10,17, of February. Maariv is at 9:00 with the shiur following at 9:10 PM. The shiurim will be delivered by Rabbi Shmuel Bluming in English @ Agudas Yisroel, 456 Crown Street between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues.

$40 Million Offer For Agriprocessors
A $40 million offer from an Israeli food company has begun the bidding for the assets of Agriprocessors in bankruptcy. Soglowek Nahariya Ltd. has made the offer for the kosher meat packing company in Postville, which became mired in legal and financial troubles after an immigration raid in May 2007 snared about one-third of its work force. Bankruptcy trustee Joseph Sarachek filed a motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court Sunday seeking approval of a bankruptcy sale process based on the Soglowek bid.

N.Y. Legislative Assembly condemns attack
In an unprecedented move, the New York State Legislative Assembly has condemned the "horrific" terrorist in Mumbai and expressed "steadfast" solidarity with the victims. "Freedom and the future security and peace of our State, Nation and entire world is dependent on immediate halting of cruel acts" being perpetrated by terrorists, it said. Stating that the residents of New York have first hand knowledge of the effects of terrorism, the Assembly recognized the people of India who, it said, have emerged as "heroes" in the wake of the terror attacks.

Lost and Found
Sunday, January 25, 2009 9:00am: Shmira received a call from a resident of an apartment building located at 672 Empire Blvd. The caller stated that there was a black male teenager sitting on the stairs on the 4th floor and that he didn’t live in the building and didn’t look to good either. A few Shmira members responded and found the teenager to be foaming a little from the mouth, sitting next to a helmet and bag with some of his belongings. After starting a dialog with the young man the Shmira members found him to be mentally challenged.

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef: Rumors True!
Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu confirmed reports that Mother Rachel assisted IDF troops fighting in Gaza, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef also declared this week that the biblical matriarch was sent to help the soldiers. In his Shabbat sermon Shas' spiritual leader described Rachel's role in the recent war. "The soldiers arrived at a house and wanted to go inside. There were three armed terrorists waiting for them there. "And then a beautiful young woman appeared before them and warned: Don't enter the house, there are terrorists there, be careful.

R' Chaim Tashkenter Honored
This Sunday a Siyum Sefer Torah was held in Memory of Rabbi Chaim and Chava Hurwitz A"H (Rabbi Chaim Tashkenter). The final letters were entered in the Sefer Torah at the home of Rabbi Sholom Ber Hurwitz. After the conclusion of the new Sefer, the crowd danced with the Sefer Torah down Ocean Parkway to Lubavitcher Yeshiva Of Ocean Parkway where all the Talmidim greeted the Torah. A Visit to the Carpathian Mountains
During the winter many tourists love to visit the snow-covered Carpathian Mountains. This year, they included the students of the Chabad Mesivta in Dnieperpetrovsk, along with a group of Jewish children attending the chabad-run orphanage in the city. The children were greatly inspired by the chassidic atmosphere of their vacation and enjoyed their first real farbrengen. For Shabbos the children stopped off in Munkacz, once a vibrant chassidic town, where they left a deep impression on the local population. As a result of the trip, many of the children took on good resolutions, such as learning Chittas and putting on tefillin every day.

Kosher Warehouse Hit in Suspicious Blaze
A Paris warehouse belonging to a kosher supermarket lay mostly ruined after what may have been an anti-Semitic attack the night before. Firefighters found an unused firebomb at the warehouse belonging to the André Kacher-Krief group in Montreuil, in Seine-Saint-Denis, where they battled a blaze for three hours, police in the Parisian suburb said.

Shloshim for Mrs. Mera Galperin
A special Shloshim gathering will be held this coming Tuesday evening, Beis Teves, at 8:00 p.m. in memory of Mrs. Mera Galperin A"H. The event will take place at the Machon Chana dormitory, 1367 President Street, where Mrs. Galperin was the beloved cook and mentor of many young women in the first years that the dormitory was open. All women in the community are invited to pay tribute to this remarkable, unique person.

Help the J.D.O. shut down hate site
A Jewish convert to Islam who has openly joined Hamas, named Yuself Khattab has recently called for terror attacks on 770 Eastern Parkway. The website run by this Khattab even suggests various ways explosives and guns can be smuggled in to this and other synagogues to carry out Mumbai style attacks using Tallis bags on Jewish holidays. The JDO has launched a campaign to shut this website down permanently. The company that hosts Khattab's website is godaddy.com and the organization is calling upon all Jews to call the webprovider to demand they shut this website down. $10 million to F.S.U. communities
The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) has pledged $10.16 million in relief funds for the Jewish communities in former Soviet Union. The IFCJ reportedly made the decision following reports suggesting the financial crisis and the decrease in philanthropic efforts have left the communities depleted. Businessman Lev Leviev, who chairs several of the organizations supporting such communities, called upon IFCJ President Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein for help, and the latter quickly pledged his support.

Weekend of Redemption
This week, several hundred Lubavitcher families attended thew annual "Moshiach Shabbos" in Teverya's King Solomon Hotel in preparations for Yud Shevat. For a full weekend participants enjoyed Seminars and Farbrengens on the topics of Moshiach and Geulah.
